Varsity Girls Track heads to Regionals!


Congratulations to the Lady Diamondback Track Team for earning an Area Championship, the first in the program’s history! The team will compete in San Antonio, Texas on April 26 and April 27 at the Heroes Stadium. As they have already earned the District Championship title and went on to earn the Area Championship, the girls have high hopes for this coming meet. Area Champions include Jessica Zarate in the 100 meter hurdles with a new personal record of 16.10, as well as being a regional qualifier for her third place in the 300 meter hurdles. Daisy Monie received first place in discus and shot put, with a discus throw of 140’03 and shot put throw of 41’03, both new area records and personal records. Daizy Coronado received second place in high jump with a personal record of 4’11 and is a regional qualifier for the 4×100 and mile relay. Leora Shorts is a regional qualifier for her third place and personal record of 8’6 in pole vault. In the 4×400 meter relay, Daizy Coronado, Kate Rodriguez, Frida Madrigal, and Gabriela Ramirez, finished in 2nd place with the best time of the season, 4:10.73, and are therefore being regional qualifiers. Nydia De La Garza is a regional qualifier for the 800 meter dash with a 3rd place finish and personal record of 2:23.66. In the 4X100 meter relay, Daniela Alvarez, Daizy Coronado, Shelby Cavazos, and Katelyn Salazar, finished in 2nd and are regional qualifiers with a season best of 50.67. In the 4X200 Meter Relay, Frida Madrigal, Shelby Cavazos, Katelyn Salazar, and Daniela Alvarez finished in 4th with 1:50.45 and are regional qualifiers as well.
