As the Hidalgo County High School Theatre Award Show, “The Palms”, rolls around for the second year of its existence, the Pioneer Alpha Theatre Troupe excitedly prepares for yet another performance of their fall musical, “Chicago: High School Edition”. Their show received numerous awards, including “Best Ensemble” and “Best Production”. Cast members also received individual awards, including Garrison Valle for “Best Supporting Actor” in the role of “Emcee”, Robert Garza III for “Best Supporting Actor” in the role of “Amos Hart”, Aaron Valladares for “Best Actor” in the role of “Billy Flynn”, and Amber Dowling for “Best Actress” in the role of “Roxie Hart”. Aside from this, being the only 31-5A theatre program to be recognized was already rewarding for our Troupe on its own. In preparation for The Palms, the troupe arranged a “Chicago: High School Edition” 5 minute medley that features the show’s best numbers. The awards will take place on April 7th at the McAllen Performing Arts Center.
